Porthmeor Beach

On the north coast of the town, Porthmeor Beach is widely regarded as offering the best surfing conditions in St Ives. It's great for family groups too; there's a full lifeguard service during summer and dogs are banned from Easter to October 1st. There is also an excellent beach cafe/restaurant at Porthmeor and its position in front of the Tate St Ives (the gallery even has a rack for your surfboard) is very handy if you're planning on surfing in the morning.below the Tate Gallery there is an excellent beach cafe / restaurant, the top floor has a wonderful panoramic view.

8 Bellair Terrace

Is just a couple of minutes walk from Porthmeor Beach. Just put on your wet suit, grab your surf board (there are plenty of places to hire or buy wetsuits in the town) and join the fun.

Surf School

There are lots of surfing schools in and around St. Ives. Although the surfing on Porthmeor beach is great, further around the coast there are wider and mostly deserted beaches. These are ideal for teaching beginners. If you are new to surfing join a class and within a couple of hours (and for a very reasonable price) you will be surfing. You are given all the equipment including a wet suit. The guides are great fun and very understanding.
