Relaxing in Sr Ives

St Ives

St. Ives

This is St Ives

One of the most famous holiday towns in Cornwall - a jewel situated at the south-western tip of this island kingdom yet readily accessible by road, rail and air. A mild climate, St Ives is warmed by the gulf stream and almost frost-free winters . There are bost trips along the coastline where you can watch seals swimming in the waters beside you.

Tate

The Tate Gallery St Ives

Occupies a spectacular site overlooking Porthmeor Beach close to the home of Alfred Wallis and to the studios used by many of the artists whose works are exhibited. It is designed to show works of art in the surroundings and atmosphere in which they were created. The Gallery is a three storey building backing directly into the cliff face. The site is dramatic - it drops 50ft from cliff-top to beach and there are entrances to the Gallery at both levels. On the roof, as on the deck of a ship about to set sail, is the restaurant. From it the view extends over the rooftops of St Ives and its harbour, out to sea, along the horizon from Clodgy Point over St Ives Bay to the Godrevy Lighthouse. There are often free childrens workshops on porthmeor beach during the summer months.

Minak Theatre

Minak Theatre and the Rowena Cade Museum

Many visitors arrive at the Minack imagining it was built by invading Romans. If Caesar's legions had come this far they might have been beguiled by the beauty of the place, but the real truth is as remarkable as this enduring fiction. From 1931 until she died in 1983 the Minack Theatre was planned, built and financed by one determined woman - Rowena Cade. This page attempts to tell her story and that of the theatre she created.
